The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) has dismissed the three petitions brought against the election of President Bola Tinubu. All the five justices on the panel – Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani (chairman), Justice Stephen Adah, Justice Monsurat Bolaji-Yusuf, Justice Moses Ugo and Justice Abba Mohammed – agreed that the petitions lacked merit.

The petitions were brought by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Mr. Peter Obi and the Labour Party (LP); and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

In the lead judgement, Justice Tsammani affirmed the declaration and return of Tinubu as the winner of the election having scored the highest lawful votes.

He held that none of the three sets of petitioners was able to prove their allegations as contained in the petitions.

LP has already rejected the ruling. In a statement, National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh said that justice was not served in the judgement, adding that it did not reflect the law and desires of the people.

The statement read: “The Labour Party watched with dismay and trepidation the dismissal of petitions by the five-man panel of the Presidential Election Petition Court led by Justice Haruna Tsammani today and we reject the outcome of the judgment in its entirety because justice was not served and it did not reflect the law and the desire of the people.

“Nigerians were witnesses to the electoral robbery that took place on 25th February 2023, which was globally condemned but the tribunal in its wisdom refused to accept the obvious”.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu however hailed the judgement and assured Nigerians of his renewed and energised focus on delivering his vision of a unified, peaceful and prosperous nation, following the decision of the Presidential Election Petition Court.
