Seven-time Olympian, Funke Oshonaike, whose name was conspicuously missing from the list of players released by the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) for the forthcoming 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, has now been included.
NTTF President, Engr Tikon Ishaku confirmed Oshonaike’s inclusion on Monday at the closing ceremony of the fourth African Track Cycling Championship at the Velodrome, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, saying that the omission was an error.
Ishaku said the current world No 11, Aruna Quadri leads Nigeria’s table tennis team to the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Others include Oshonaike, Bode Abiodun, Edem Offiong, and reigning All Africa Games champion, Omotayo Olajide.
Making their debuts are 2022 Africa Cup finalist, Fatimo Bello, Amadi Omeh, Esther Oribamise and Ajoke Ojomu.
If the earlier error had persisted, it would have been the first time that Oshonaike, the seven-time Olympian, would be missing from international duties for Nigeria.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham will hold between 28 July and 8 August 2022.
