Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has said that the impeached Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Wale Adedayo should be ready to defend the false allegations levelled against him and his government.

This is just as Abiodun stressed the need to instil party discipline within the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure that members of the party are accountable for their actions.

He disclosed this during a meeting with leaders of the APC in Ijebu East Local Government, led by a former member of the House of Representatives, who represented Ijebu North, Ijebu-East and Ogun Waterside between 2007 and 2011, Chief Segun Osibote, on Monday.

This was contained in a statement made available to the journalists on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS).

While saying that he was prepared to defend himself against the allegation of funds diversion by Adedayo, the governor said, “There are two things; he lied against me as the governor, he lied against me as Dapo Abiodun, he spoilt my name, and he tried to incite the public against the government. Wale Adedayo has to answer all these allegations one after the other.

“We have to instil discipline in governance, discipline in the party, and people have to be accountable for what they say. You must be accountable for what you say so that you will always think very well before taking any nasty action.

“People have to be made to bear the consequences of whatever they say and until we do that, they will not stop and I am prepared to ensure that Wale Adedayo is held responsible for what he has said.

“He said he is committed to what he has said. He has to go and prove and show that I, Dapo Abiodun, Governor of Ogun State diverted public funds. He has to go and prove that”.

Abiodun disclosed that he had never tampered with LG funds.

“The funds for the local government go straight into the account of local governments where they meet, share and remove what we call first-line charge from it; the salary of health workers, teachers in the local government, staff of the local government themselves and the salary of traditional rulers.

“He himself collects his own security votes. It has never been late. I even look for projects for them. Sometimes, I dip my hand into state funds for them so they can also have projects to execute. That same person can now say that I have been diverting local government funds,” he said.

When contacted for reaction, Adedayo said he was driving and would get back to our Correspondent. He has yet to get back as of the time of filling this report.

Meanwhile, the state government, through the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Lekan Adeniran, while speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, asked the general public to be wary of Adedayo’s claim of a threat to his life.

The CPS added that the impeached LG boss is notorious for raising false alarms.

He said that since Abiodun was elected governor in 2019, there has not been a single case of political killing in the state.

“We now have at the helm of affairs a humane, gentle, caring leader in the person of Prince Abiodun. Prince Abiodun is not a do-or-die politician, unlike Adedayo’s principals. That is why, since 2019, Ogun State has not recorded any political killings”, the CPS said.

According to him, the peace currently enjoyed in the state is simply because the governor has committed so many resources to provide security for the citizens by reinvigorating the security architecture in the state as well as improving the welfare of their personnel.

“Is it not absurd, highly illogical, and contradictory that the state government would be doing everything possible to secure the people and at the same time be accused of threatening the lives of the same people?

“The public should disregard his blatant lies”, he added.
