The Supreme Court has fixed Thursday, 5 October, to hear the appeal of the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, according to Sunday PUNCH.

His lead counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), disclosed this to newsmen on Saturday.

Also confirming the development, IPOB’s lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, said all appeals filed by Kanu would be heard on Thursday.

Saturday PUNCH reported that on 13 October 2022, the Court of Appeal, Abuja Judicial Division, delivered a judgment in an appeal filed by Ozekhome on Kanu’s behalf.

The judgment further challenged some parts of the Federal High Court ruling.

In the end, the Appeal Court retained seven counts out of the original 15 count charges against Kanu and struck out eight.

The judgment also directed the Federal Government to immediately release Kanu unconditionally.

However, Kanu has still been held in one of the holding facilities of the Department of State Services (DSS).

In a statement he sent to Sunday PUNCH, Ejiofor noted that Kanu’s legal team would be exchanging ‘legal fireworks’ and urging the Supreme Court to dismiss, in its entirety, the appeal filed by the Federal Government against the October judgment of the Court of Appeal.

Part of the statement read, “We are very firm and committed to our solemn belief that the wheels of justice, though grinds slowly, grinds exceedingly fine and towards the attainment of justice at the end of the day”.
