Torunarigha sets sights on AFCON, World Cup triumphs with Super Eagles

Recently debuted Super Eagles defender, Jordan Torunarigha, has set a target of winning next year’s Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria while also helping the team qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

The Super Eagles will begin their quest for a fourth AFCON title against Ivory Coast having been paired in the same group with the hosts alongside Equatorial Guinea and Guinea Bissau in Group A.

Torunarigha, who made his first appearance for Nigeria in an international friendly against Mozambique in Portugal, told Transfermarkt that he was ready to give everything for the country.

“I have two big goals with Nigeria: the Africa Cup of Nations next year and the World Cup in 2026. I will and we will give everything for that”.

Having previously represented Germany at the youth level and also participated in the 2021 Olympic Games with Germany, Torunarigha is now committed to Nigeria.

Torunarigha, son of former Eagles forward, Ojokojo Torunarigha spent 75 minutes on the field before being substituted for Calvin Bassey Nigeria’s 3-2 win over Mozambique.

On his debut, the 26-year-old defender described the experience as a ‘very special’ one.

“It was a very special moment and I’m really proud. Nigeria is a team with many top players and great characters that you enjoy being on the pitch with.

“We won, that’s always the most important thing. We would have liked to keep a clean sheet, but it was fun on the field. I hope the coach and my teammates were happy”.

The Gent defender also talked about how proud his family was following his invitation to the Eagles team.

“Of course, we talked a lot about the topic before the nomination. My dad and my whole family are very proud and happy”, he said.

“They were there when I was first invited by Nigeria and will continue to support me in the future. If I need advice from my dad, he’s always there for me”.
