Juju music star, Peter Akanni Akorede (popularly known as Emperor Pick Peters), is dead.
Emperor Pick Peters, who was famous in the late 1970s and early 1980, was said to have passed on in Abeokuta. He was 74 years old. –
His death was announced by a music promoter, who owns Evergreen Music, Bimbo Esho.
In her Facebook post late Thursday, Esho wrote: “Omo Ode ti ku (The hunter’s son is dead).
“His name should ring a bell to all lovers of juju music. His controversial song, E juba f’omo ode (Hail the hunter’s son) which he released under TYC label in 1976 as a response to King Sunny Ade‘s song, E kilo f’omo ode (Caution the hunter’s son) made him popular in the 70s. The song was released during the epic battle between KSA (King Sunny Ade) and (music label owner, Chief Bolarinwa) Abioro.
“Emperor Pick Peters, one of Nigeria’s great juju musicians, succumbed to the cold hands of death today in Abeokuta at age 74.
“Pick Peters, a native of Ipokia (Ogun State), will be missed by fans and loved ones all over.
“Some of his timeless songs are Kango kango l’agogo ndun released in 1974, Igbeyin l’alayo n ta, Irawo, Eni seka, Peter l’aja kan, Ayewa, Eda aiye nreti, etc
“May his gentle soul rest in peace”.
