The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign spokesperson, Mr Festus Keyamo SAN has assured that the ruling party would be committed to issue-based campaigns for the 2023 presidential election, not mind the tactics of the opposition parties.
On his Twitter page on Saturday, Keyamo, who is also the Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, said the APC would refrain from calling opposition parties and their presidential candidates’ names, adding that an abusive campaign was a “sign of frustration”.
In response to statements of the spokesman of the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organisation, Senator Dino Melaye, during a recent interview, Keyamo wrote: “We’ll run a clean campaign. We’ll not use abusive words on our opponents and their spokespersons. We’ll refrain from calling those who Nigerians think and say they look stupid with their gaffs as such.
“Abuses on a campaign trail are a sign of frustration. We will stick to the issues”.
In a recent interview on Channels Television‘s Politics Today, Keyamo had claimed that Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party does not have the experience to lead Nigeria and that the Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is even way ahead of him in the race for Nigeria’s presidency in 2023.
On the same programme as week later, Melaye responded: “This government marketed Atiku by their colossal failure. Today, the most difficult candidate to sell is an APC candidate whether, at the House of Representatives, Senate, or governorship level.
“That is why you cannot defend, promote or campaign for Bola Ahmed Tinubu without looking stupid. This is what happened to my brother and friend, Festus Keyamo, he started talking off point. He started saying things that do not make sense”.
