President Bola Tinubu has dismissed the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Mr. Babatunde Irukera.

The President also sacked the Director-General/CEO of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Mr. Alexander Ayoola Okoh.

A statement on Monday by the presidential spokesman, Chief Ajuri Ngelale explained that the action was in “conformity with plans to restructure and reposition critical agencies of the Federal Government towards protecting the rights of Nigerian consumers and providing a strong basis for enhanced contributions to the nation’s economy by key growth-enabling institutions”.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Irukera was first appointed EVC/CEO of the Consumer Protection Council on 30th January 2019. He was in charge when the agency transformed into FCCPC.

Ngelale said that the dismissed Chief Executives are to hand over to the next most senior officer in their respective agencies, pending the appointment of new Chief Executive Officers.

Okoh had been in charge of BPE since 13th April 2017.
