Group hails NSE over Oguntala’s election as 1st female NSE President

A group of engineers under the aegies of Borno Technology Development Foundation (BTDF) has congratulated Engr. (Mrs.) Margaret Aina Oguntala, on her recent election as the first female President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).

In a statement on Tuesday in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, the President of the foundation , Engr. Kabir Wanori said: “The election of Engr. (Mrs) Oguntala has received nation-wide applause from members of the NSE across the various states of Nigeria. The leadership and entire members of the NSE across the federation have received the news of Engr. (Mrs) Oguntala with great happiness and commendation. This is an indication that our leadership is intune with the global campaign for gender mainstreaming and sensitivity in the choice of leaders in our society”.

Wanori, a former Commissioner for Environment in Borno State, described Aina’s election as a welcome development which is seen as a round peg in a round hole. As a top and super professional, Oguntala comes with cognate experience spanning decades of professional, corporate services and excellent reputation, he said.

“There can be no better time to have a seasoned professional like our new President than now. We in BTDF are happy that a seasoned professional like Engr. Oguntala has emerged as our new President at a time when our society is in need of credible and experienced leaders in our professional associations. We wish to pledge our unflinching support and solidarity to our indefatigable President”.

According to the statement, BTDF has no doubt about the capacity and leadership credentials of the new President, adding: “We are confident that Engr. Oguntala will bring her experience and capacity to bear on her administration which we know will turn around the fortune of the NSE during her reign.

“BTDF is confident that you will bring your long years of management and leadership experience to bear, in turning around the fortune of the society and engineering education in Nigeria. All over the place, you are known for your positive energy and quality. It is obvious that your choice is very strategic and purposeful. The leadership of NSE knows the education, exposure and quality that you parades, hence your choice as the new President to help improve the quality of engineering education and profession in Nigeria”.

Oguntala is the Managing Director/CEO of Bamsat Nigeria Limited; a Council member of Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria, and three time Vice-President of the NSE. She was a past Chairman of the Ikeja branch  of NSE (2009 – 2011) and a past General Secretary of the Association of Professional Women Engineers in Nigeria, and a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Environmental Engineers.

Oguntala is a chemical engineer having studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Benin, where she graduated in 1986.
