Ahead of the commissioning of the Lagos Red Line rail by President Bola Tinubu on 29th February, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday inspected the progress made on the project.

In a statement on his verified X account, the governor wrote: “Today, I inspected the progress of work at the stations along the Red Line Rail in anticipation of the commissioning.

“It’s crucial to emphasise that the railway tracks are designated for transportation and not for commercial activities or as a market space.

“The railway tracks are NOT a market place for you to display and sell your wares”.

An hour earlier on the same handle, he wrote: “Today, we embarked on a thorough inspection and closely monitored the ongoing cleanup operations at both the Obalende under-bridge and Ijora under-bridge, currently being revitalised by the Ministry of the Environment.

“During the assessment, I addressed illegal occupants at the Ijora under-bridge, emphasising the importance of the cleanup efforts. I made it clear that a range of recreational activities would be established beneath the bridges and no individual would be permitted to reside or slumber beneath these structures in the future.

“This initiative aims to transform these spaces into vibrant, safe areas for the community”.

The first phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line system is projected to move more than 500,000 passengers daily. It stretches over a distance of 27 kilometres from Agbado to Oyingbo, with eight stations at Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, and terminates at Oyingbo.
