Panic in Osogbo community as suspected ritualists behead homeless woman

There was panic on Tuesday morning around the Oke Baale area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, following the discovery of the headless body of a middle-aged woman.

The headless body was discovered behind shops opposite the Osogbo Local Government Council Secretariat

It was gathered the woman, was said to have been homeless and had been in the area for months.

Her hands were also discovered to have been cut off by her assailants who are allegedly ritualists.

Following the incident, traders and shop owners in the vicinity did not open their shops for business for fear of being arrested by law enforcement agents.

Residents and passersby were gathered at the scene when  newsmen visited around midday.

No security agents were seen in the area and neither did authorities of the local government make any effort to evacuate the corpse.

A resident, Lawal Akinwumi, told  newsmen that the dead woman had been beside the road, begging for months.

He also called on the relevant authorities to assist with the evacuation of the corpse.

“The victim had been homeless for some months and had been living beside the road in the area and begging for alms.

“We call on the state government and other appropriate authorities to evacuate the corpse and investigate the horrible killing of the woman.”

The Police Public Relations Officer of Osun State Command, Superintendent Yemisi Opalola did not respond to enquiries by  newsmen.

The spokesperson of the Osun State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kehinde Adeleke said she has not been briefed on the incident but promised to revert.
