Bauchi Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed has imposed a 24-hour curfew in Katagum Local Government Area of the state following escalating security crisis in the aftermath of the End Bad Governance protest held last Tuesday.
The governor said the decision followed a series of violent incidents resulting in the destruction of public property, theft, and victimisation in the area..
The governor’s directive is contained in a statement made available to journalists in Bauchi on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim.
The statement said Gov Mohammed has instructed all security agencies to take swift action to address the situation, apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice.
The governor also called on law-abiding citizens to support security efforts during the challenging time.
Recall no fewer than 52 protesters were arrested last Friday for alleged violent activities in the aftermath of the demonstration which commenced on Thursday in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed while providing an update to journalists on the arrest said a policeman was injured in the protest.
The CP revealed that the arrests were made for breaches of public order and unlawful assembly across the state.
