HYPPADEC to support 7,500 youths in Kwara

The Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has revealed plans to financially support 7,500 youths in Kwara State to grow their businesses.

At the presentation of the commission’s short-term development to stakeholders in Ilorin at the weekend, the Managing Director, Abubakar Yelwa unveiled a 30 by 30 strategy through which the commission would pick 30 youths from its 250 communities in the state and support them with N30,000 each.

The HYPPADEC boss said that, since the commencement of its operation in the state, it had supplied 167 solar streetlights, completed the construction of 16 solar boreholes, and commenced the procurement processes for another 16.

He further said that the commission has commenced the construction of a block of three classrooms in five local government areas, while it would iniate another set soon.

Yelwa also said that the commission has commenced the construction of Patigi drainage programme, adding that if no action is taken to address the drainage issue in the area, half of the town would be lost.

He said the commission has also supplied fertilisers to affected communities in a reasonably discounted rate despite the fact that it could not provide the need of the communities.

The HYPPADEC Managing Director explained that the commission has also distributed food items to communities affected by floods in the state and gave helping hands to students in tertiary institutions to make payments on their behalf.
