The Federal Government and the Ekiti State government have concluded plans to upgrade the permanent orientation camp of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) located at Emure Ekiti, Emure Local Government Area of the State to a world-class standard.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Youths and Community Development, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, gave the hint at the weekend in Emure-Ekiti, when members of the committee visited the camp for a facility tour.

Adaramodu, representing Ekiti South Senatorial District, bemoaned the dearth of requisite facilities that could offer comfort to the youth corps members at the camp, saying the effort would correct such anomaly.

The Senator was accompanied to the camp by other Committee members like Senators Wasiu Eshinlokun, representing Lagos Central; Chukwuemeka Eze, who represents Ebonyi Central; and the Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth Development, Gold Adesola Adedayo.

Intervention facilities announced by the lawmaker are modern hostels, office accommodations, corps members, ultra-modern toilet facilities, and lecture halls, among others.

Adaramodu explained that the visit became apparently imperative for members to promote the camp to a befitting standard among other camps in the country and correct the existing facility deficit noticeable therein.

“The State Government and officials of the Ekiti NYSC led by the Commissioner for Youth Development paid a visit to my office in Abuja laid their complaints about bad condition of the NYSC camp to members of the committee.

“We won’t allow you to suffer. The service year is meant for you to give your best to the country and we are ready to partner the government at all levels to remove whatever barrier that you are facing.

“Let me advise you to use the period of this service year to plan for your future and perfect yourselves for positions of leadership in the near future”.

Adarmodu announced to the corps members that whoever wants to proceed in his academic pursuit immediately after the service year should not hesitate to contact his office for possible sponsors and for other allied assistance.

Speaking earlier, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth Development, Adedayo, said the visit of the Senate Committee to the orientation camp was a collaborative efforts that would revamp the camp and make it befitting for the youth corps members.

Adedayo disclosed that the Ekiti State Government had in the last few months donated 45-room toilet facilities in addition to the ongoing lecture theatre and mattresses to the camp.

He advised the corps members to perceive themselves as potential future leaders, urging them not to engage in any activity or indiscipline that could jeopardise their future ambition.
