Nigeria’s Idubamo Beggi has been named among the ten best players of the group phase of the 2024 FIBA U-18 Women’s AfroBasket Championships in Pretoria, South Africa, and is in the running for the MVP award of that stage of the event that entered the winner-takes-all knockout stages on Wednesday.
She leads the Nigerians in efficiency, points, and assists, having scored 19.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 5 assists as the side won 1 of their 3 matches but managed to score enough for a best third-placed team slot.
She has hit double digits on points in all three matches, scoring 23 against Egypt, 20 against Zimbabwe, and 16 in 28 minutes against Uganda.
The other nine players in the running for the group stage MVP award are Oummou Koumare (Mali), Damaris Emedie (Cameroon), Brigitte Nibishaka (Rwanda), Eiza Louveton (Morocco), Resty Nanangwe (Uganda), Kelya Kipo (Cameroon), Luisa Amaral (Angola), Khadiga Abouelghait (Egypt), and Oumou Dabo (Mali).
FIBA is calling on fans to vote for their best player in the group phase after 18 games in the U18 Women’s AfroBasket 2024.
This fan vote is not an official award from FIBA but was created solely to enhance the experience of the fans to show their support for their favourite players in the FIBA U18 Women’s AfroBasket 2024.
Beggi has played a crucial role for Nigeria, as has Abigail Isaac, and coach Juliana Ojoshogu Negedu was expected to build his game around the duo during Wednesday’s quarterfinal clash with Egypt.
Beggi hails from Kaiama in Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
