The Deputy National Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori has made a significant philanthropic gesture by donating N50 million to support victims of the recent flooding which destroyed houses, business places, warships centres and displaced a huge mumber of people in Maiduguri and its environs.

The donation is aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the victims, and facilitate recovery efforts, and also to compliment the efforts of Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum.

The APC leader made the donation in Maiduguri at the weekend after visiting some of the affected flood victims in Internally Displaced Centres (IDPs) in metropolis of the state capital.

According to a statement by Dalori’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Hon. Yemi Akinbode, the APC leader cut short his official duties in Abuja to join other leaders, including Vice President Kashim Shettina; Minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari; senators; and some House of Representatives members, who had gone to sympathise with the government and people of the state over the disaster.

The flooding was caused by the collapse of Alau Dam following heavy rainfall. Hundreds of people in Maiduguri had been forced from their homes by the floodwaters, and at least 30 died.

Dalori told the victims: “I am here to sympathise with the government and good people of Borno State over the sad and unfortunate incident that has rendered many of our people homeless, and also resulted in the death of others. We are overwhelmed by the extent of damage that the flood disaster has caused our people. As we mourn those who are dead, we also wish to console those who lost their properties and source of livelihood in the flood. Yes, this is a natural disaster, which we did not anticipates, but we are shocked at the extent of damage and loss that we have suffered by this ugly occurrence.”.

Dalori described the situation as a really bad, which require the quick intervention of the government and public-minded individuals and associations, and thanked Zulum for his quick and timely response to mitigate the impact of the flood.

He said: “Let me use this opportunity to thank our leader and Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum for his very rapid response and intervention to arrest and bring the situation under control. I would like to call on the Federal Government, public-spirited individuals and international organisations to rally round and come to the rescue of the affected communities. On my own part, I wish to donate a cash support of N50 million in support the victims of the disaster”.
