Flood: Sokoto govt, Wamakko donate N20m, foods, other items to Tangaza victims

Sokoto State Government and the state leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Aliyu Wamakko have donated N10 million each to the communities affected by flood in Tangaza Local Government Area.

Other items donated by the state government included 300 bags of rice, 500 pieces of blankets and mats each.

During a commiseration visit to the affected communities, Governor Ahmed Aliyu described the situation as heart-touching and pathetic, hence the need for immediate attention to ease the plight of the displaced persons.

He appealed to the affected communities to take heart and consider the calamity as something ordained by the Almighty Allah.

The governor restated his administration’s commitment to finding a lasting solution to the incessant flooding ravaging many parts of the state.

He further appealed to the people in the state to imbibe the habit of cleaning their culverts and drainages as well shun the indiscriminate dumping of refuse so as to allow for the easy passage of water whenever it rains.

“We are deeply concerned with this issue of flooding here and there. Therefore, communities have to join us so that together we can find a lasting solution to this recurring menace,”he appealed”, Aliyu said.

The Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa assured the people of the area of more assistance when the committee set up to assess the level of damage submits its report

Earlier, the Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Council, Isa Salihu Kalanjeni told the governor that, although the flooding was severe, with lots of farmlands and houses destroyed, no life was reported to have been lost.

He thanked the governor for the visit, which he said had gone to prove his undying love and concern for his people.
