The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has said that the previous administration, led by the party’s former governors did not accumulate any debt.
This comes as the state governor, Alex Otti, on Thursday, disclosed that his administration had cleared N90 billion of the N191.2 billion debt inherited from past governments within 15 months, all without taking on any new loans.
In a statement sent to Saturday PUNCH, the Abia State PDP chairman, Abraham Amah, said past governors of the state never left behind any debt.
“The attention of Abia PDP has been drawn to recent claims you made regarding the payment of N90 billion to contractors in our state, which you allege to be debts incurred by the previous PDP-led administration.
“To be clear, the Abia PDP is unaware of the existence of such a debt incurred by the immediate past PDP administration. It will serve the interests of Abians if you put out the records as proof of your claims”, Amah stated.
He further called for an investigation into the N90 billion paid by the governor.
“This staggering amount warrants immediate scrutiny, and we urge you to provide clarity on how this figure was determined and the basis for these payments. Our people deserve to have confidence in their leaders, and without clear communication, such confidence is eroded”, he said.
