Morocco take a bold step towards the knockout phase of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar as they shocked Belgium, the No 2 team in the world by latest FIFA ranking.
The Atlas Lions delivered two second half goals in a Group F Matchday 2 fixture and hung on to those crucial deliveries till the end. Morocco’s victory came despite have an earlier goal ruled out offside.
Samporia’s midfileder Abdelhamid Sabiri scored in the 73rd minute, while striker Zakaria Aboukhlal, who features in the French Lique 1 for Toulouse struck the killer punch in second minute of added time.
Morocco now have four points from two matches having played goalless in their opening fixture against Croatia, while Belgium have three points from the lone goal victory over Canada on Matchday 1.
Next for the north Africans is a crucial match against Canada on Thursday, just as Belgium will have to rescue their campaign with a clash against Croatia.
Croatia and Canda will go head-to-head in about 30 minutes in the group, while Spain versus Germany in Group E (the match of the day) comes up at 8 pm (WAT).
