Shippers Council’s assistant director, Ambi-Mohammed bags PhD in Mass Communication

An Assistant Director and Head of the Complaints Unit of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Bashir Alhassan Ambi-Mohammed has recently earned Ph. D in Mass Communication and Media Technology at the Lead City University, Ibadan.

A trained mass communicator, international transport professional and a certified alternative disputes resolutions professional, Dr. Ambi-Mohammed holds degree in Mass Communication from the University of Maiduguri (1995), Master of Science in Mass Communication from Lagos State University (2004), Master of Science in International Transport from Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University, United Kingdom (2011) and Master of Philosophy in Mass Communication and Media Technology from the Lead City University,

He had his mandatory national youth service in Ogun State in 1995-1996, and was posted to NNPCL/Pipelines Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Mosimi, Sagamu. He was one of the recipients of the state NYSC Merit Award given by the then Military Administrator, Wing Commander Sam Ewang with an employment attached.

He started his working career with the NNPCL/PPMC in Mosimi, where he was later transferred to the off-shore at PPMC’s Atlas Cove Depot, Tarkwa Bay, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Ambi-Mohammed joined the services of NSC in 2000 as a Public Relations Officer. He is currently an Assistant Director (Operations). He had worked as the Personal Assistant to Dr. Hassan Muhammad Lawal (now late) when the politician served variously as Chairman of NSC Governing Board, Minister of Labour; Works and Housing; and Supervisory Minister of Health.

Ambi-Mohammed also worked as Personal Assistant to another NSC Governing Board Chairman, Alhaji Ali Olanusi.

He was later posted to work with the then NSC Executive Secretary/CEO, Captain Adamu A. Biu. He served with utmost trust and confidence throughout Biu’s two-term tenure.

He was later posted as Maritime Officer in the Complaints Unit of NSC, and also worked as an Operations Officer in the unit.

To solidify his professional competence, Ambi-Mohammed attended numerous courses in and outside the country, including the one he personally sponsored himself at the Pacific Institute in London, United Kingdom. He also attended courses and received certificates in Leadership and Personal Effectiveness in Wales-UK

He held different positions of trust and responsibilities, including General Secretary of NSC Cooperative, the President (two terms) of NSC Staff Cooperatives where he was able to raised the funds of the from about N30.44 million in January 2017 to about N420.62 million in 2021.

He is running his second term as the Chairman of Lagos State Branch of the Nigerian chapter of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT Nigeria). He is also the Chairman of Publicity Committee of CILT Nigeria and General Secretary of Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) LaPRIGA 2024 Awards.

He is a pioneer Editor-In-Chief, Complaints Newsletter of the NSC; Chairman of the Editorial Board; a member of NSC Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee; a member of Automated Container Indemnity Clearing House System Implementation Committee in Nigeria; and recipient of several awards for hard work, among others.

Ambi-Mohammed has published academic journals locally and internationally. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport and logistics; Member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations; and certified Member of the Alternative Disputes Resolutions.

He is a holder of traditional titles of the Jakadan Awe (envoy) as well as the Ubandoman Majidadin Bauchi (a senior councillor in the court of the Majidadi of Bauchi).

Ambi-Mohammed likes reading, horse riding, jokes, positive innovations, truthfulness, and dislikes eye service, fake life, greed, eavesdropping, corruption and cheating.

He is happily married and blessed with children.
