Sen. Iya Abbas representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District has formally declared interest in contesting the 2027 governorship election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abbas, who stated this while briefing newsmen on Friday in Yola, said that he was in a better position to succeed Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri who was already serving his second term.
He said he knew Adamawa well as a two- time member of the state assembly, fomer speaker and now in the Senate.
‘I am part of the history, we don’t want it to stop, we want to continue on that trajectory when our governor leaves so that Adamawa will continue to move forward.
‘Secondly, everyone knows that there is peace in Adamawa, the governor has brought peace and everybody is happy with this and we need to sustain it.
‘Nobody knows how to maintain it more than me, that is why I am offering myself to people of the state’, he said.
Abbas said, if voted to power, he would lead and impact on the people positively in areas of security, agriculture, health, education and other sectors.
‘I will tackle some of the security challenges to enable people to go to their farms, provide farm implements, fartilizer at subsidised rate and on time for bumper harvests’, he said.
While appreciating Fintri for giving the people of the state a sense of belonging, the aspirant pledged to sustain it if elected.
Abbas, who was elected into the Senate in 2023 said he has sponsored a lot of bills from education, health technology among others to better the lot of his people.
