The Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) Ahmed Audi has summoned the Corps Commandant in Adamawa State, Muhammad Bello, to the national headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement on Wednesday by the corps spokesperson, Olusola Odumosu, the summons came in the wake of the controversy surrounding the just concluded Adamawa State governorship rerun election where the corps was alleged of complicity along with other security agencies.
The supplementary election held in the state on Saturday after the election of 18th March was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission over certain irregularities.
The collation exercise in the state was stopped on Sunday after the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barrister Hudu Yunusa-Ari, declared Senator Aishatu Dahiru (alias Binani), the winner of the election, which led the commission on Monday to ask Yunusa-Ari to stay away from the office.
According to the statement, Audi directed the Adamawa State Commandant to immediately hand over affairs of the command to his immediate subordinate.
The NSCDC boss emphasised that the NSCDC was a non-partisan, non-political organisation that would not tolerate the involvement of personnel or any of its formation in political controversies as widely alleged.
He said: “I have summoned the state commandant to the national headquarters to face the management team and explain himself in clear terms.
“We are known for our integrity, neutrality, and non-partisanship in election matters, that is why we will not take the case of Adamawa lightly.
“I have ordered him to hand over the command to his immediate deputy because his role in the rerun election is currently being investigated and if he is found culpable, then he will have himself to blame”.
The Commandant General vowed that the officers found to be involved in any form of compromise during the governorship rerun election in the state would not be spared but would be dealt with to serve as a deterrent to others.
