Adidas insist they have had no discussions with Manchester United regarding the position of Mason Greenwood in the club’s playing squad.

The 21-year-old has been suspended by the club since he was arrested on suspicion of raping and assaulting a woman and later suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill in January of 2022.

All charges were dropped against him by the Crown Prosecution Service in February of this year, with United then launching an internal investigation regarding his future at the club, which is yet to conclude, Daily Star reported.

Club sponsors Adidas have now responded to a report in The Sun that claimed the German sportswear brand had approved his potential return to Erik ten Hag’s first team.

An Adidas spokesperson said: “After inaccurate and speculative reporting within the media it’s important for us to clarify that Adidas has had no discussions with Manchester United regarding any member of their playing squad.

“We play no role in any decisions made regarding any member of the team or staff at the club.”

It has been reported that United will decide the future of the forward before the new English Premier League season gets underway.

Greenwood has made 129 senior appearances for the club scoring 35 goals after progressing through their youth academy, with his future up in the air.

Greenwood said in a statement when the charges were dropped: “I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones, and friends for their support.

“There will be no further comment at this time”.
