Verraki Partners has called on African businesses to go beyond enthusiasm for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and adopt a structured, readiness-first approach to the new technology’s integration.
This call came as Verraki publishes its AI Readiness Framework for African Businesses, a comprehensive study assessing organisational preparedness and identifying strategic pathways for effective AI adoption across the continent.
According to the report, while an overwhelming 87% of African business leaders believe they are ready to adopt AI technologies, only 66% expect to achieve mature or advanced readiness by 2027. Technology, financial services, and telecommunications are currently perceived as the most AI-ready sectors in Nigeria. However, critical gaps persist, with over 55% of business leaders citing regulatory and policy barriers as major obstacles.
Technology Advisory Partner at Verraki Partners, Olatunde Olajide said: ‘AI will not replace people. But people who use AI will replace people who don’t. Businesses that spurn AI will fall behind those that adopt it to drive growth and efficiency. The future belongs to those who are ready to learn fast, adapt boldly, and act deliberately with AI as a co-pilot’.
The report identifies that AI readiness is not solely a technical concern but a multi-dimensional state involving strategy, operating model, data governance, digital infrastructure, executive sponsorship, and workforce literacy. It highlights that many African businesses risk having underperforming AI initiatives due to inadequate preparation, limited data capabilities, and insufficient talent development.
Verraki’s framework provides a practical guide to bridge these gaps. It recommends a phased approach to AI adoption, starting with simple, high-impact use cases, building internal trust, and progressively scaling complexity. Furthermore, it underscores the importance of cross-sector collaboration, ethical governance, and a shared vision for AI across public and private sectors.
