The D’Tigress will know their quarter-final opposition on Wednesday (today) at the ongoing FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament, as Angola take on Cameroon in a playoff fixture.

The six-time continental champions began the defence of their AfroBasket title at the Palais de Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, by recording maximum victories against Rwanda and Mozambique in Group D.

Rena Wakama’s side had thrashed Rwanda 92-45 in their opening game, before securing a slim 60-55 win against a dogged Mozambican outfit to book their place in the last eight.

The win over the Mozambicans further extended Nigeria’s unbeaten streak at the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket competition to 26 games, a run that has stood since the 2015 edition in Cameroon, where the team last tasted defeat at the hands of the hosts in the semi-finals, although the team won the bronze medal by beating Angola.

Cameroon have had a mixed campaign at AfroBasket 2025, having first defeated debutants South Sudan 70-63 in their opener before succumbing to the firepower of Mali 75-49 in their final group game. They have scored a total of 119 points and have let in 138 points, which underscores their defensive frailties. Their points differential stands at -19 as they finished second behind the Malians in Group B.

Meanwhile, two-time African champions Angola have been atrocious thus far, having lost all their games in the round-robin phase. They opened up their campaign by losing 70-54 to North African heavyweights Egypt before following that up with another 82-74 defeat to the hosts, Ivory Coast. They have scored a total of 128 points and have conceded 152, with a points differential of -24.

The winner of their contest will book a date with D’Tigress on Thursday, 31 July, with a place in the semi-finals up for grabs.

Nigeria will be the overwhelming favourites to reach the last-four, which will not only get them a step closer to landing another continental trophy but will be enough to secure a spot at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament, which will hold early next year.
