The Assa autonomous community in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State recently witnessed a significant boost to its security architecture with the commissioning of a new Police operational base.
It is an initiative fully funded by ANOH Gas Processing Company (AGPC), an International Joint Venture between Seplat Energy and NNPC Limited with the sole purpose of strengthening law enforcement presence, enhancing rapid response capabilities, and safeguarding lives, property, and critical economic assets within the area.
The well-attended ceremony brought together a cross-section of stakeholders, including traditional leadership, security authorities, community representatives and corporate partners, all united by a shared commitment to peace, safety, and sustainable development.
The Odozi Obodo II of the autonomous community, His Royal Majesty Emmanuel Assor, who offered royal blessings, reaffirmed the community’s unwavering support for initiatives that promote security and stability.
The Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining law and order through closer collaboration with host communities and key stakeholders.
The newly commissioned Police operational base is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening intelligence gathering, improving crime prevention, and enhancing coordination between security agencies, the community, and corporate stakeholders. Its presence is anticipated to significantly improve safety, boost investor and resident confidence, and create a more secure environment for socio-economic activities to thrive.
The Managing Director of AGPC, Engr. Effiong Okon commended the Assa community for its enduring cooperation, mutual respect, and the strong partnership it has built with the company over time.
Okon, who was represented by Engr. Celestine Akahomhen, noted that the peaceful and collaborative relationship between AGPC and its host communities remains a critical enabler for operational success and sustainable development. He further reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting initiatives that foster stability, human capital development, and overall social progress.
The President-General of Assa Town Union, Comrade Reward Evans expressed deep appreciation to AGPC for its consistent contributions to the community, particularly in promoting peaceful coexistence and supporting development-focused initiatives.
He acknowledged the company’s role in facilitating projects such as the Police Operational Base and urged community members to take collective responsibility for protecting public infrastructure while sustaining the existing harmony.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of an Award of Excellence in Human Capacity and Community Development to AGPC by the Host Community Management Board. The award recognised the company’s impactful contributions to youth empowerment, human capital development, and community relations, further underscoring the strong and mutually beneficial relationship between AGPC and the Assa people.
Also in attendance were government officials, youth leaders, and members of the AGPC Host Community Development Board.
The commissioning marks a major step forward in reinforcing security and enabling sustainable development in Assa.
