The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) for Zone 10, Gyogon Augustine Grimah has commended the efforts of the Sokoto State Command and advised on the efficient utilisation of available resources to combat security threats effectively.

During his familiarisation tour to the command Thursday, the AIG addressed critical issues affecting the performance and integrity of the force, according to a statement by the one’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent Uthman Muhammad Yaqub.

These include upholding discipline across all ranks, eliminating illegal detentions and unauthorised investigations, ensuring proper documentation through accurate entries, promoting professionalism in both on duty and off duty conduct, preventing human rights abuses, and enhancing supervision and conducting regular visiting rounds.

Others are: correcting improper dressing, especially the wearing of mufti without name tags or force numbers; maintaining strict custody and accountability for arms and ammunition, adhering to social media policies and professional codes of conduct; prioritising general welfare and regular medical checks; and deepening knowledge of the operational environment.

Grimah was warmly received by the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Ahmed Musa, who highlighted the structure, challenges, and strategic importance of the command.

The CP emphasised the strategic location of the command, which shares borders with Zamfara and Kebbi States, and Niger Republic, thereby exposing it to various security threats, including banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, housebreaking, and other criminal activities.

Despite these challenges, Musa said that the command remains committed to continuous training and retraining of personnel and takes pride in hosting the zonal headquarters.

He reaffirmed the command’s resolve to seek the continuous guidance, advice, and support of the AIG in addressing the prevailing security issues.

The visit underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to reinforce professionalism, improve operational standards, and strengthen the fight against crime in Sokoto State and the zone.
