Akpabio announces Wike, El-Rufai, Alake, Umahi, 24 others ministerial nominees

Former governors Nyesom Wike, Nasir El-Rufai and David Umahi as well as presidential spokesman, Mr. Dele Alake are among the list of ministerial nominees read on the floor of the Senate by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Thursday.

The long-awaited list from President Bola Tinubu was presented to Akpabio by Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila at 1:36 pm. It contained 28 names.

It is the first batch if the nominees as each of the 36 states of the federation is constitutionally required to have a nominee each.

The list is coming two days before the deadline as stipulated by the constitution (as amended by the ninth Assembly) for the President to submit his list of nominees to the Senate.

According to the 1999 constitution (as amended), the President has 60 for the President to unveil his cabinet members.

Tinubu was sworn in as President on 29th May 2023.
