Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has intensified his infrastructural development drive with new projects, as the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) awards the contract of about N1,77 billion for the construction of Ikenga-Isuofia-Igboukwu discharge channel.
ANSEC also approved about N443.41 million for the supply and installation of fire-fighting equipment at the College of Nursing Science, Umueze-Isuofia in Aguata Local Government Area (LGA).
Contracts for other projects were also approved by the council at its 23rd meeting held in Awka, the state capital, on Monday.
According to the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, ANSEC also approved the supply and installation of 32kva solar power system at Country Club of Solution Fun City, Awka, and the construction of Solution Park and Pay Garage at Ekwulobia, which covers office building, gate house, toilet facility, concrete floor, park gazebo with solar panel stands and park benches and perimeter fence;
The commissioner said that the council also awarded the contract for the extension of electricity to Iyiora Anam community and Zion Ministry Psychiatric and Elderly Hospital, in Aguleri; and the installation of a three-way traffic light system at Igwe Orizu Junction (Lot 1); and a four-way traffic light system at the Nnewi Roundabout, along the Nnewi-Ozubulu Dual Carriageway, Nnewi (Lot 2), with pedestrian lights at both locations.
Also included were the supply and installation of fire-fighting equipment at the College of Nursing Sciences, Umueze-Isuofia, in Aguata LGA and rehabilitation of failed portions of the St. Thomas Aquinas Road, GRA Awka-Min of Lands-Ekwulobia Street-Chief Abose Ejeagwu Lane.
Mefor said that the council also called for university autonomy in choosing Vice Chancellors, and welcomed the recently appointed Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Ugochukwu Anyaehie, wishing him an eventful term.
He explained that the development stems from Soludo’s advancement of the educational sector, where he has made a great impact.
Recently, the council agreed to rehabilitate more schools to improve the educational standard of the state, stating that public schools that had not received enough attention would now receive it.
The Soludo administration has enhanced learning in schools with the procurement of smart boards in place of the approved interactive boards and tablets for teachers in the 22 smart schools across the state, coupled with the reconstruction of Boy’s Secondary School, Uga.
The governor’s free education policy has been extended up to Senior Secondary School Year 3, and the government has recruited an additional 3,115 teachers, increasing the number to 8,115.
Soludo is said to have equipped over 60 secondary school laboratories with the required Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics equipment, and increased the operational budgets for primary and secondary schools to ensure they deliver the quality education promised.
The governor’s regeneration impact has been felt in the Uli campus of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) in Ihiala LGA, where he restored electricity to the institution after 21 years of blackout, with the provision of free internet access.
He has also built a state-of-the-art trauma centre at the COOU Teaching Hospital, Amaku- Awka, the first state-owned facility in the Southeast to enhance healthcare for trauma patients.
The transformation of the state under Soludo was applauded by President Bola Tinubu during his visit to the state, while commissioning some landmark projects, including the new Government House (now named the Light House), Awka, a 34-year-old jinx broken by the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
