The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has set a new record for its highest single-day revenue collection, generating N28.10 billion in 24 hours on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

The latest figure represents a significant increase from the Command’s previous daily record of N20.1 billion, achieved in September 2025, a few months after Emmanuel Oshoba became the Customs Area Controller.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Isah Sulaiman, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday.

The new milestone comes shortly after the Command reported a record monthly revenue of N323 billion in July, which the service attributed to improved compliance, stronger enforcement, intelligence-led operations, trade facilitation and greater use of digital customs systems.

Commenting on the development, Oshoba said the achievement should be viewed beyond the revenue figure, stressing that customs collections contribute to the government’s ability to finance critical sectors of the economy.

He said revenue generated by the service supports public expenditure on areas such as infrastructure, security, education and healthcare.

The Customs Area Controller commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and the NCS management for supporting reforms, automation and modernisation initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and transparency in customs operations.

Oshoba also credited compliant importers, exporters, licensed customs agents and other stakeholders for their cooperation, while acknowledging Nigerians who have provided useful intelligence to the Command.

He urged stakeholders to continue supporting legitimate trade, noting that stronger government revenue would enhance the capacity to fund development programmes and create a more favourable environment for businesses.

The Apapa Customs boss also cautioned officers and men against becoming complacent following the latest achievement. He urged them to regard the new record as an additional responsibility to improve their performance.

According to him, revenue generation must be pursued alongside effective trade facilitation, professionalism, transparency and respect for legitimate businesses.

He directed personnel to address genuine disputes promptly and ensure that customs procedures do not create unnecessary obstacles for lawful commercial activities.

Oshoba said the Command would maintain its current momentum through increased revenue collection, improved trade facilitation and stronger collaboration with stakeholders, stressing that every legitimate naira collected contributes to national development.
