The National Working Committee (NWC) meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which started about Noon on Monday, has been postponed indefinitely the party’s meeting of the party’s National Causus and that of the National Executive Committee (NEC) respectively scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
The NWC meeting was presided over by the Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Abubakar Kyari, who acting in the capacity of acting National Chairman.
Kyari’s emergence as Acting National Chairman on Monday followed the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu as National Chairman, on Sunday night.
Less than 24 hours after, the National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore followed Adamu’s path by stepping down for the Deputy National Secretary, Barrister Festus Fuanter, to emerge as Acting Secretary.
The Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Emma Enukwu; Vice-Chairman (South West), Hon. Isaac Kekemeke; Vice Chairman (North West), Dr. Salihu Lukman; and Fuanter; were among party leaders in attendance at the NWC meeting on Monday.
There is heavy presence of security personnel around the headquarters of the party located in the Wuse 2 district of the Federal Capital Territory.
Adamu was absent at the meeting, while the National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore arrived at the venue late, but left sooner.
Insiders said Omisore was not allowed to be part of the meeting.
Adamu had reportedly been advised by Imo State governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, who is also chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, to resign after a protracted cold war with President Bola Tinubu.
In the build-up to the national elective convention that saw Adamu become APC National Chairman, Tinubu had supported Senator Tanko Al-Makura for the position.
But having enjoyed the support of the then President Muhammadu Buhari, Adamu was elected chairman.
Also, while the party was in the process of choosing its presidential candidate, Adamu openly supported then Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan for the ticket, and indeed announced to the party national leaders that that was the sitting president’s choice.
Adamu has reportedly been unable to account for the over N30 billion accrued to the party from the sales of nomination forms before the just concluded general election.
