The Nigeria Patriotic Coalition (NPC), a political pressure group, has enjoined delegates to this weekend’s National Convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to vote according to their conscience leaders who would strengthen the bonds within the party and pursue unity among the diverse ethnic groups and interests.
In a statement in Abuja, the group’s spokesman, Alhaji Ibrahim Modibbo recalled the challenges the party faced in the build-up to the convention and admonished all stakeholders to pull together by enthroning order and stability within the rank and file of the party.
‘As we look forward to the presidential primary of the party, it is important that we strive towards unity within our party by adopting a policy of give-and-take’, Modibbo counselled, adding that, ‘we cannot afford to do otherwise as the Nigerian populace have a lot of confidence in our party to produce a President in 2023 who will build on the legacies of the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari’.
The group asked the convention delegates to jettison politicians whose only strategy to win any form of election, including intra-party ones, is to induce them in any form. ‘At this stage that our party members and Nigerians generally yearn for selfless and progressive-minded leaders, we cannot but demonstrate that we have the ability to use our votes to do that which is right,’ the NPC spokesman said.
Offices being contested for include: National Chairman, two Deputy National Chairmen, National Secretary, National Legal Adviser, National Publicity Secretary, National Treasurer, National Auditor, National Financial Secretary, National Women Leader, National Welfare Secretary, National Youth Leader, National Organising Secretary and their deputies.
Others are: National Physically Challenged Leader, National Vice Chairman for each zone, as well as Secretary, Youth Leader, Organising Secretary, Women Leader, Special Leader for Persons with Disabilities and National Ex-Officio for each of the six geopolitical zones.
