Muslim Association of Visually Impaired of Nigeria (MAVIN) has urged the government to assist people living with disabilities.

The association spokesman, Abdulwasiu Salaudeen said this in Lagos, yesterday.

“This is a distress call on President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly and top officials to look into the plight of people living with disabilities.

“They should take steps to alleviate the hardship faced by the masses, caused by the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.

“So much has been said and done with regard to the distribution of palliatives to cushion the harsh effect of subsidy removal on the less privileged.

“It is unfortunate people living with disabilities have not been factored into these interventions, considering their physical condition and lack of access to where they can benefit from the distributed items.

“We want the government to allocate a reasonable quantity of palliatives, specifically targeted at people living with disabilities, under the supervision of government agencies, to ensure these items get to them”.

“We want federal and state institutions to make education free and accessible for people living with disabilities, by means of scholarship and free tuition, to relieve them of the burden of acquiring education”.
