Aviation Cup Africa Golf Tournament, the industry, corporate game and recreational engagement aimed at celebrating how aviation aides sport, tourism and diplomacy in the globalised 21st century, is now in its third year.
The tournament, which highlights the similarities that golf and aviation share, will be making a return to where it all started — Ikeja Golf Club, the non-military golf course most synonymous to aviation in Nigeria — on 31st May and 1st June 2024, as it evolves from a day affair to a two-day engagement.
The tournament, which held in partnership with, and on the margins of, Aviation Africa Summit in Abuja in 2023, played host to major brands across the aviation value chain. These include Boeing, Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Sabre Travel Solutions, Air Peace, Ibom Air, 7Star Global Hangar, Dana Airlines, South African Airways, Wakanow, League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents and MamaJ Aviation.
The duo of former Director of Security Services at FAAN, Group Captain Usman Abubakar Sadiq and Nasir Yahaya, one of the teams that represented FAAN, won the Corporate Foursome Challenge.
According to the CEO of Diplomacy Publishing & Events — organisers of the tournament, Sòókò Deji Ajomale-McWord, the two-day tournament would be of bi-format as it would feature both corporate and singles pparticipations, with chief relevance conferred on the Corporate Foursome Challenge.
“We look forward to having FAAN defend its championship or probably get dethroned by another agency, the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Nigerian Air Force, the flying arm of Nigerian Army/Police/Navy/Customs or even one of the players from the private sector”, he further said.
On what to expect at the event, Ajomale-McWord said: “Fun, networking, healthy competition and investiture”.
