The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has warned motorists queuing for fuel at various filling stations to avoid traffic congestion that inconveniences other road users.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, gave the warning on Sunday as he deployed additional officers to monitor traffic around fuel stations across Lagos.

This is according to a statement by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq.

Oki explained that the increased deployment was necessary due to reports of traffic obstructions around fuel stations due to long queues of vehicles.

“The current fuel scarcity is not an excuse to obstruct and disrupt traffic in Lagos.

“We want our roads to be free-flowing; fuel queues should not become a burden for other road users in Lagos”, Bakare-Oki stated.

He reiterated that effective traffic management was essential for achieving a seamless multi-modal transportation system in Lagos.

Fuel queues usually mount at various filling stations in Lagos during fuel scarcity, with the queue extending to major roads.

According to The PUNCH, motorists over the weekend queued at filling stations along the Secretariat Bus Stop, and also at other stations along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
