Taiwo Awoniyi has replaced injured Victor Osimhen in Nigeria’s squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed that Osimhen, who is recovering from a muscle strain, will miss the upcoming qualifiers.
Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle subsequently called up Awoniyi as a late replacement for the Galatasaray striker.
“Coventry City striker, Taiwo Awoniyi replaces Victor Osimhen in Nigeria’s squad for the AFCON 2027 qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. Welcome back, Taiwo,” the Super Eagles said in a brief message on X.
The Super Eagles are expected to open camp in Uyo on Monday ahead of the two fixtures.
Nigeria will host Madagascar next Thursday before travelling to Bissau to face Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, September 29.
