The Niger State Governor, Mallam Mohammed Bago has said that he would appoint 100 women to various offices in his cabinet before the week runs out.
This, he explained, is was in keeping with his campaign promise to women to abide by affirmative action.
Receiving the executives of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), led by its Chairperson, Mrs. Bola Jibogun, at the Government House, Minna on Wednesday, Bago announced that “out of the 100 appointments, FIDA will have a coordinator and two Senior Special Assistants.
“FIDA is part of this government, so let us join hands and work together to bring about the desired growth and development of the state.
“There are a lot of women initiatives; we are creating a lot of desks to address affirmative actions and also gender-related issues in this government and we hope the collaboration will meet the yearnings and aspirations of women”.
FIDA Secretary, Safura Abdulkareem explained that as a non-partisan organisation, they protect the rights of women and children as well as stand against any form of gender-based violence.
