The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has approved the procurement of Agrochemical and other equipment worth N40 million in response to a recent outbreak of insects and pests in farmlands across the state.

Represented by the state Commissioner of Agriculture, Professor Simon Madugu Yalams, Governor Bala Mohammed disclosed this to Arewa PUNCH while flagging off the aerial spray initiative against Quelea birds at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, Bauchi.

Yalams noted, “The move was to ensure timely and effective control of the outbreak due to its emergency need.

“Agriculture is the backbone of the Bauchi economy, and the sector employs over 75 per cent population of the state”.

According to him, it is against this backdrop that the Mohammed administration since its inception, made a lot of efforts towards transforming the agricultural sector into a business that will enhance the earning power of the teeming farming families.

He added that the transformation of the sector is aimed at attracting investors, donor agencies, and development partners from both within and outside the country.
