The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Haruna, over the alleged killing of her 43-year-old co-wife, Jamila Adamu, at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi metropolis.
The incident occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at about 4:05pm, following a report of a domestic altercation between the two women, who lived in the same household.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, preliminary investigations revealed that Haruna, the second wife, allegedly picked up a pestle and struck Adamu on the forehead during the altercation.
Adamu reportedly collapsed and became unconscious after the incident.
Police detectives attached to the C-Division were subsequently deployed to the scene, where they documented the incident before taking the victim to Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, for medical attention.
A doctor at the hospital later confirmed Adamu dead, while her remains were deposited at the mortuary pending an autopsy.
The police said Haruna was arrested in connection with the incident, while the pestle allegedly used in the attack was recovered as an exhibit.
The Command said the suspect allegedly acted while experiencing hallucinations, adding that further investigation would establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.
Aliyu condoled with the deceased’s family and urged residents to seek timely medical and psychosocial support for relatives experiencing mental health challenges.
The Command also advised members of the public to promptly report cases of domestic violence to the appropriate authorities.
