The Bauchi State Government has sacked a Secretarial Assistant with the State Hospitals Management Board for fraud.

The fraud allegation against the dismissed officer, Sani Mohammed Tirwun, included falsification of records, issuance of fake appointment letters, illegal posting of illegal staff, faking of the Board’s Staff Officer’s signature and alteration of posting letter.

Additionally, he was alleged to have collected over N1 million to issue fake appointment letters. He also allegedly collected N250,000, N200,000 and N150,000 respectively to insert the defrauded persons among the approved posting.

In a statement on Saturday, the Information Officer of the state Civil Service Commission (CSC), Saleh Umar said the dismissed officer was found guilty of the offences he was accused of committing which contradict Chapter (4) Section 4 Rule 108, item xvii, xiv, xv of Bauchi State Public Service Regulation 2017 (reviewed version), during the Commission’s 22nd plenary session held on October 5th, 2023.

He said: “The Bauchi State Civil Service Commission has dismissed one Sani Mohammed Tirwun, a Secretarial Assistant II of the Bauchi State Hospitals Management Board for an act of serious misconduct.

“The commission considered the dismissal during its 22nd plenary session held at the Conference Hall of the Commission on 5th October 2023. Sani Mohammed was found guilty by the Disciplinary Committee of the Hospitals Management Board for falsification of record, issuance of fake appointment letters, illegal posting of illegal staff, faking of the Board’s Staff Officer’s signature and alteration of posting letter.

“These contradict Chapter (4) Section 4 Rule 108, item xvii, xiv, xv of Bauchi State Public Service Regulation 2017 (reviewed version) that dealt with aforementioned offences as serious misconduct and liable to dismissal.

“Besides all these, the officer was also alleged to have collected over one million Naira (1,000,000) for issuance of fake appointment letters as well as collecting the sum of N250,000, N200,000 and N150,000 respectively for inserting the victims among the approved posting.

“The officer in answer to a query letter issued to him by the Hospitals Management Board confessed to the crime. Therefore the Officer’s dismissal was approved with effect from 1st October 2023.”

The information officer said that the Chairman of the CSC, Abubakar Usman, who presided over the sitting reiterated the Commission’s consistency in the discharge of its assignment under his leadership.

“The Chairman who lamented what the dismissed Officer did was unbearable, described it as dishonest and called on job Seekers to be extra careful with such people.

“The Commission during the plenary advised the victims to get redress at the appropriate Agencies,” he added.

Last 15th August, the state CSC dismissed two staff of the Ministry of Finance for financial misappropriation and forgery.

Those sacked were Chief Clerical Officer and Assistant Chief Clerical Officer of the Ministry, Nasiru Sama’ila and Auwal Jibrin respectively who allegedly forged the documents of deceased former staff of the Ministry which enabled them to divert the sum of N330,000 belonging to him (deceased) who is their former colleague.

This also came barely two weeks after the Commission sacked one Ibrahim Garba attached to the State Pension Board for a similar offence.
