The Bayelsa State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who is also the incumbent governor, Senator Douye Diri, has won Saturday’s election, pulling 175,196 votes.
He defeated his main rival, former Governor Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 110,108 votes.
Diri won in six of eight Local Government Areas (LGAs). These are: Kolokuma/ Opokuma (his home LGA), Sagbama, Yenagoa, Ogbia, Ekeremor and Southern Ijaw LGAs.
In Southern Ijaw LGA, which produced the last result, Diri polled 24,685 votes to defeat Sylva, who scored 18,174 votes, while Labour Party recorded 119 votes.
