The Emir of Birnin Gwari His Royal Highness, Mallam Zubair Jibril, OFR (Mai-Gwari II), has shared the inspiring story of his emirate’s journey from darkness to dawn, offering valuable lessons for a stronger Nigeria.

In his speech titled ‘Renewed Hope, Renewed Peace: Lessons from Birnin Gwari for a Stronger Nigeria’, the Emir recounted the harrowing experience of his people, who endured nearly two decades of banditry and neglect, but never surrendered.

‘There was a time when the name Birnin Gwari struck fear into every heart, when roads were deserted, markets silent, and families fled their ancestral homes in anguish’, the Emir recalled.

However, with the help of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit in December 2022 and the subsequent peace accord championed by the Federal and Kaduna State Governments, peace has returned to Birnin Gwari.

The Emir highlighted the significant reduction in banditry, killings, and kidnappings, and the reopening of roads and farms, saying, ‘The long night of Birnin Gwari has ended, and the dawn we prayed for has come’.

He attributed the turnaround to deliberate leadership, divine mercy, and the collective resolve of leaders and citizens, citing the Holy Qur’an and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as sources of inspiration.

The Emir also commended President Tinubu for his courage and empathy, and Governor Uba Sani for his efforts in expanding opportunities in Birnin Gwari.

He called for continued partnership with the Federal and Kaduna State Governments, international development partners, and the private sector to consolidate peace and accelerate development in Birnin Gwari.

The Emir’s priorities include the rehabilitation of key roads, establishment of a tertiary institution, revitalization of agriculture, and investment in agro-processing, mining, and renewable energy.

He also urged the upgrade of the Jibril Mai Gwari I Memorial Hospital to a Federal Medical Centre, citing its strategic importance in serving the people of Birnin Gwari and neighbouring communities.

The Emir’s message extended beyond Birnin Gwari, offering lessons for Nigeria’s journey towards peace and prosperity.

He emphasized the importance of people-centred security, development, and strong institutions, saying, ‘No community is too broken to be restored, and no challenge is beyond redemption’.

The Emir expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, Governor Uba Sani, and all security agencies and community partners who contributed to the restoration of peace in Birnin Gwari.

He also commended the resilience of the people of Birnin Gwari, saying, ‘Continue to uphold justice, kindness, and mutual respect. By Allah’s mercy, our land shall continue to prosper in peace, unity, and divine favour’.
