Bishops lead protest against NAFDAC’s alleged harassment of Fufeyin over spiritual products

On Tuesday, a group of over seven bishops led a protest to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) office in Asaba, the Delta State capital. The protest was in response to what they perceived as NAFDAC’s unfair treatment and attacks on the Senior Prophet of Christ MercyLand Deliverance Ministry, Jeremiah Fufeyin, particularly concerning his spiritual products.

The background of this controversy involves a legal battle between Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin and a social media activist known as VeryDarkMan (Martins Vincent Otse). VeryDarkMan has been a vocal critic of Prophet Fufeyin’s miracle products, claiming that they lack proper NAFDAC certification and that the prophet is exploiting believers by selling unverified products. VeryDarkMan even took these products to NAFDAC to formally file a complaint, accusing the agency of neglecting its regulatory duties by not taking action against Fufeyin’s products.

This move has resulted in heightened tensions between both parties, leading to legal actions from Fufeyin, who sued VeryDarkMan for N1 billion in defamation.

The protest at the NAFDAC office by the bishops and their supporters was marked by strong demands for the agency to refrain from what they called “attacks” on Prophet Fufeyin. The protesters argued that the spiritual leader was being unfairly targeted by the agency, possibly due to the ongoing public criticism fueled by VeryDarkMan.

The situation reflects a broader conflict between religious freedoms, consumer rights, and regulatory oversight in Nigeria.

The legal battle is still ongoing, with both parties maintaining their stance. VeryDarkMan remains firm in his accusations, while Prophet Fufeyin has demanded an apology and a retraction of the claims made against him. The court has ordered both parties to maintain the status quo until the next hearing
