Bomb explosion hits Yobe livestock market

Two bombs exploded at Buni Yadi Cattle market of Yobe state on Friday, killing one girl and four people injured, witnesses and security said.

One of the  Eyes witnesses, Musa Hassan Yadi, told LEADERSHIP via a telephone conversation that the incident happened at around 12:57, with multiple injuries.

Also, shortly after the incident, the spokesman of the Sector 2 Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Muhammad Shehu, confirmed that another IED planted in the market was discovered and successfully detonated by the Army.

He explained that the (1) only explosion victim is currently receiving treatment at a health facility in Buni Yadi.

He stressed the incident was a planted IED and not a suicide bombing incident.

A credible source from the security personnel confirmed that the security agencies had swiftly commenced an investigation into the incident

The source added that it has also deployed the Anti-Bomb Squad Unit and other relevant command units to ensure that the perpetrators are Arrested and brought to justice.

Another resident, Baba Lawan, did not say how many people were killed but told LEADERSHIP that a bomb blast was responsible for the deaths.

The first blast ripped through the primary famous cattle marker, where one girl was among the victims. The second bomb went off at an entrance gate.

Some residents who don’t want their names to be printed said that one girl died in the explosion at the cattle market, and four wounded people have been evacuated to hospital.

Reports revealed that no one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack in Buni Yadi, Yobe state

Meanwhile, Yobe State Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni has assured that the government would not compromise peace and security across the state.

The governor, who was responding to the Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) planted at Buni Yadi market, stated that the security operatives were on high alert and on top of the situation.

Buni said that, From the reports, there is just a casualty of a young girl hawking water at the cattle market who stepped on the concealed IED and survived with an injury on her leg.

A Statement by DG Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Buni, Mamman Mohammed directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to evacuate the lone casualty to the State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

According to the statement, the security operatives carefully worked on the details, including the suspects and their entry route.

He added, “There is huge progress in the ongoing investigation. “We will not relent; we will not allow anyone or group to reverse the progress made in the security of our state.

He called on the people to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons and movements in their areas.

“Together, we will always win the battle of good over evil”.

Meanwhile, the army ordinance has successfully removed two other undetonated explosives planted in the market.
