The former President’s spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu wrote on his X handle @GarShehu:
“INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAIHIRRAJIUUN.
“The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin’.
Another aide of the former President, Bashir Ahmad, also announced his passing on X.
He wrote: ‘The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London.
‘May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin’.
Nigeria’s civilian President between 2015 and 2023, and military ruler from 31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985, Buhari was born on 17 December 1942. He was retired as Major General following the military coup that toppled his regime on 27 August 1985.
Further details regarding burial arrangements are expected to be released by the family in accordance with Islamic rites.
