As part of efforts to further promote a sense of belonging among orphans, the Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni has supported orphans with yet another cash assistance of N50,000 each to 1,000 of them across the state.
The governor had made the provision of special support to the orphans as an annual event where in November 2022 supported 200 with N50,000 each selected from across the 17 Local Government Areas through the office of his Special Adviser on Religious Affairs, Ustaz Babagana Mallam Kyari.
Launching the distribution of the cash support to 1,000 orphans at the banquet hall of the Government House, Damaturu, the state capital, Buni said that the gesture was initiated by his administration in order to give the orphans a sense of belonging especially during festivities.
Buni who quoted verses from the glorious Qur’an on the need for support for the orphans and the needy restated the commitments of his administration towards upholding spirit urging other well-to-do in the society to continue to complement government efforts.
“I wish to commend individuals and organisations who have during the period of this holy month of Ramadan been providing food to the needy and other vulnerable persons thereby complementing government efforts. This spirit of giving should be encouraged to go beyond the month of Ramadan.
“The importance of such kind gestures promotes mutual respect, love and in the same vein eliminates hatred and envy. Above all, it earns Allah’s pleasure and attracts covert over blessings to our individual and collective endeavours with huge successes.
“It is important to note that this administration is very sensitive to the welfare of orphans in the state for them to live a normal and dignified life. Many orphans are today beneficiaries of government programmes with special care given to them to pursue education at all levels.
“A very good percentage of orphans have been enrolled and sponsored by the state government to pursue education from the primary schools up to the tertiary level within and outside the country. Furthermore, many of them were enlisted in the Tsangaya education system in the state and I am happy to note that they are making impressive performances”.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs, Ustaz Babagana Mallam Kyari commended Buni for prioritising the needs of the orphans and other less privileged across the state.
