The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has removed the Group D second-leg fixture between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Libya’s Mediterranean Knights from the ongoing 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The match was originally scheduled to take place in Libya at 8 p.m., following Nigeria’s 1-0 victory in the first leg, at Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Friday.

Controversy erupted ahead of the return leg after the Super Eagles players and officials reported a grueling 14-hour ordeal at a Libyan airport, forcing them to return home.

Originally scheduled to land in Benghazi, their flight was rerouted to Al Abaq, located two hours away from their intended destination.

For over 14 hours, the Super Eagles squad, along with NFF officials, were stranded without any arrangements for transportation.

In response to the incident, CAF announced that it has launched an investigation, with the Libyan Football Federation alleging sabotage and threatening legal action against Nigeria.

As the investigation continues, CAF has updated the list of games scheduled for Tuesday on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, notably omitting the Libya-Nigeria fixture.
