A leading aspirant in the 2025 Anambra State governorship election under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sir Paul Chukwuma, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) of the Onitsha Archdiocese on the occasion of its 60th anniversary, which also coincided with the celebration of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s birthday.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Mr James Eze, Chukwuma lauded the tireless efforts and accomplishments of the CWO over the years, praising its leadership and members for their unwavering devotion to the Church and society. He emphasised the organisation’s pivotal role in fostering faith, family values, and community development in the Archdiocese and beyond.

“The 60th anniversary of the CWO in Onitsha Archdiocese is a significant milestone highlighting decades of dedication, service, and leadership from the women who have faithfully served the Church”, Chukwuma said.

“I sincerely congratulate Dame Dr. Ngozi Nwanosike, the CWO director, and Lady V.V.I. Okoye, the founder of the CWO in Onitsha Archdiocese, as well as the organisers, presidents and secretaries of all the parishes in the Archdiocese, who continue to uphold the core values of this organisation”.

The anniversary event, held on Saturday, 7 September 2024, began with a solemn Holy Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Collins Okoye, the assistant chaplain of CWO Onitsha Archdiocese. In attendance were the two CWO chaplains and many other dignitaries. Chukwuma was represented at the event alongside other prominent figures such as Senators Victor Umeh, Tony Nwoye, and Chief Emeka Iduu, a member of the House of Representatives for Onitsha North. The presence of CWO directors and secretaries from Awka, Nnewi, and Ekwulobia Dioceses further underscored the unity and regional importance of the occasion.

The day’s festivities included various activities that showcased the rich culture and values upheld by the CWO. These included a fashion parade, cultural dances, and a quiz competition, all adding colour and excitement to the event. A symbolic cake-cutting ceremony also marked the 60th anniversary of the CWO, with participants coming together in song to celebrate their achievements.

Chukwuma, in his message, expressed his pride in being associated with such a remarkable organisation and commended the CWO for its continued dedication to the betterment of the Church and community. “I am deeply honoured to have been represented at this historical event, joining esteemed leaders and members of our society in celebrating the CWO. Their impact is felt not just within the Church but in families and communities across Anambra State”, he said.

He further highlighted the CWO’s contributions to society, particularly in promoting unity, nurturing family values, and serving as role models in their communities. “The Catholic Women Organization has consistently demonstrated leadership, faith, and resilience. I am confident that under the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the CWO will continue to thrive and serve as a beacon of hope and strength for future generations”.

Chukwuma’s statement concluded with a prayer for continued success and divine guidance for the CWO as they advance in their service mission. He also reiterated his commitment to supporting organisations like the CWO, which is essential in maintaining society’s spiritual and moral fabric.

The spokesperson, Mr. Eze, noted that the CWO Onitsha Archdiocese’s anniversary celebration was a resounding success and serves as a reminder of the importance of faith-based organisations in community building.
