At a time when the nation continues to grapple with the pressures of insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment, family instability, and post-pandemic stress, the association said that this year’s conference is fitting.
‘It aims to shine a national spotlight on mental health, and to re-emphasise the vital role of clinical psychologists in guiding individuals, families, and communities find healing and balance’, the statement read.
The conference will be preceeded by two days of Continuing Education Training sessions to give practitioners an opportunity to update their knowledge in line with global best practices.
It will also discuss challenges faced in the field, and explore innovative, evidence-based solutions to Nigeria’s mental health challenges.
Udoka said that Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani is the Distinguished Guest of Honour because his ‘dministration has shown strong commitment to human development and community well-being’.

The Chief Host is NACP President, Prof. Gboyega Abikoye, while the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee is Associate Professor David Igbokwe.
Udoka emphasised that ‘mental health is not a luxury, it is a necessity’.
Continuing, she noted that Nigerians needed to come to the awareness that psychological well-being is as important as physical well-being, and ‘therefore prioritise engaging licensed clinical psychologists to receive proper assessment, diagnosis, and treatment or management of any psychological or mental health issues they might be struggling with’.
The conference will underscore the message that clinical psychologists are not only healers of the mind but essential partners in national development.
NACP is the umbrella body of clinical psychologists in Nigeria, committed to promoting mental wellness, advancing psychological research, and ensuring that professional standards align with global best practices.
