Como continued their impressive run of form with a 2-0 victory over Sassuolo in Serie A on Saturday, as Anastasios Douvikas scored twice in the second half.

The result lifted Cesc Fabregas’s side to fourth in the standings, two points behind early leaders Inter Milan, who were scheduled to host Fiorentina on Sunday.

Como struggled to break down a disciplined Sassuolo defence for much of the encounter but eventually secured all three points through two goals from Douvikas within an 11-minute spell after the interval.

The Greece international has now scored five goals in his last four matches, taking his overall tally to eight across all competitions this season.

The victory further strengthened Como’s momentum following their emphatic 4-1 win over Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League in midweek.

Having secured European qualification for the first time in their history last season, Fabregas’s team have continued to make an impression with their performances in domestic and European competitions.

Elsewhere in Serie A, Roma were set to face Napoli later on Saturday, with a victory offering them the opportunity to move to the top of the table.

Second-placed Lazio were also targeting the summit when they hosted Parma, setting up a potentially significant day in the early race for the league title.
